The work

When patching stops paying

A new roof is a full strip and rebuild. We take the old covering, battens and felt back to the rafters, lay a new breathable membrane and treated battens, and fix your new tiles or slate with fresh ridge, hip and leadwork. It is the right call once repairs stop holding, when the felt has torn behind the gutter, or when the covering has simply reached the end of its life.

Stripping back to the rafters is the only way to see the timbers properly, so any rot or a sagging purlin is found and put right while the roof is open rather than years later. What you end up with is a roof that is watertight, insulated to current standards and good for decades, with a workmanship guarantee behind it.

We tell you honestly whether a full re-roof is really needed or whether a repair still has life in it. The quote is itemised, with scaffold and clearance included, so the figure you agree is the figure you pay. Access is planned around you, the site is kept tidy each day, and everything is cleared away when we leave.

    Roof survey

    A look at the covering, the timbers and the loft space, so the quote covers what is actually there.

    Written quote

    An itemised price covering scaffold, materials, labour and waste removal.

  3. 03

    Scaffold up

    Scaffold goes up first. Nothing is stripped until the access is safe and signed off.

  4. 04

    Strip and inspect

    The old roof comes off in sections and the exposed timbers get checked before anything new goes on.

  5. 05

    Rebuild

    Membrane, battens and covering go on, with the leadwork and ridge finished as the roof closes up.

  6. 06

    Clear and hand over

    Site cleared, gutters cleaned out, and a walk round the finished roof with you.

Things people ask about new roofs

How long does a new roof take?

A straightforward semi-detached roof is usually three to five working days once the scaffold is up. Larger or more complicated roofs take longer, and the quote says which.

Will the house be left open to the weather?

No. The roof is stripped and re-covered in sections so each part is closed up before the end of the day, and the work is planned around the forecast.

Do I need scaffolding?

Yes. A full re-roof cannot be done safely off ladders, so scaffold is included in the quote rather than added later.

Can you match the existing tiles?
