The work
The details that stop being visible
Tiled roofing covers clay plain tile, concrete interlocking and natural slate, laid new or repaired. Getting it right is mostly about the details that stop being visible once the roof is finished: the batten gauge, the head lap, how many tiles are mechanically fixed rather than relying on the nib, and how the ridge and hips are secured.
Modern dry ridge and dry verge systems hold far better than everything bedded in mortar, because mortar cracks and lets go while a mechanically fixed ridge does not. Done properly the roof shrugs off wind uplift and driving rain and needs far less attention over its life.
On repairs and extensions we match the existing tile so the new work does not stand out, and we re-bed, re-point or convert to dry systems depending on what the roof actually needs. You get a written price and a tidy site at the end of it.

What you get
What is included
The process
How tiled roofing normally runs
- 01
Identify the covering
What is on the roof now, what is still available, and what the closest match is.
- 02
Specify
Gauge, lap, fixing pattern and ridge detail set out in the quote, not decided on the roof.
- 03
Prepare
Membrane and battens go on first, set out so the courses land correctly at the ridge.
- 04
Lay and finish
Tiles laid and fixed, then the ridge, hips and verges finished and the site cleared.
Pricing
What moves the price
Every roof is different, so the quote follows a look at yours rather than a figure over the phone. The roof, and the loft where the fault is a leak, both get checked before anything is priced.
The quote you get back is itemised: access, materials, labour and clearing the site. Where the job needs scaffold, that goes in the figure from the start, not added later. The points on the right are what make the biggest difference to where the price lands.
What we look at
- Whether the covering is plain tile, interlocking or natural slate
- The pitch, and how many hips, valleys and dormers break up the roof
- Dry ridge and verge systems against traditional bedded mortar
- How much of the existing batten and membrane is being replaced
- Access and scaffold
